Real Country Music from Grass Valley, California
Vocals & Guitar
“He's a poet, he's a picker”
- Kris Kristofferson; The Pilgrim
A native of the Bluegrass State, Drinking & Dreaming's lead singer Andrew Wainscott has been playing traditional and roots music since he was knee high to a Junebug, as they say in Kentucky. To borrow another common Kentucky expression, he has more country bona fides than Carter’s got little pills.
“He’s a walking contradiction”
When Kris Kristofferson wrote that line he could have been talking about Andrew. Sweet and unassuming as can be, Andrew can bring on the tears with a voice so steeped in heartbreak and loss you can’t help but buy what he’s selling.
Guitar & Pedal Steel
“Well, I thought my pickin' would set 'em on fire”
– Jerry Reed; Guitar Pickin’ Man
A Northern California native, Joe Carlson also got his start in music at an early age, getting his first guitar at age 8. While living in San Francisco in the late 1990’s he formed the notable SF roots-rock outfit the McAllisters. A move to Sacramento led to stints in a slew of country bands including Stars & Garters and Danny Morris & the California Stars.
“But nobody wanted to hire a guitar man”
Jerry Reed didn’t have it exactly right in his song; now living in the Grass Valley, Joe is happy to say that someone did want to hire a guitar man, a little band called Drinking & Dreaming.
